Spain announces a 3% increase in its standard VAT rate

Spain’s Prime Minister, Marino Rajoy, announced yesterday that the standard Spanish VAT rate would increase from 18% to 21%, as part of a number of austerity measures to be introduced.
The reduced VAT rate of 8% will also increase to 10%, while the super reduced rate of 4% will remain unchanged.
These changes are expected to take effect from 1st August 2012.
